Thanks for this post. I cheated this week on my 365. I had a migraine and could barely look through the viewfinder or stare at the computer screen. I posted a photo I had taken a couple weeks ago and did it as quickly as I could so I could go back to bed. But I'm okay with it. It was kind of liberating in a way. I don't plan to make it a habit, but it was kind of like saying what's the worst that could happen? I missed a day and the world didn't come to an end!

I like this post, it shows a good attitude. I see too many people burn themselves with projects they force themselves to do.

Don't worry about your camera so much. Mine have been rained on, snowed on, swiped by nosy toddlers, etc, and are trucking along just fine. I am not suggesting you entirely ignore the health of your gear, but it is very hardy stuff. It will hold up to a lot. Besides, there are nice pictures to be found out there in less than "ideal" weather!

Thank you for the work you've done on this blog. I learned quite a bit from it over the last couple days.

Good post. I'm attempting a Project 365 this year and it hasn't been that easy. I'm torn between wanting great shots and pics of my life (which aren't always the same thing). Add to that I'm shooting on a wee little red Sony W150 which doesn't handle inside light well. It has forced me at times to get more creative in what I take pics of though so it is good. I try and post them as a week in review on Sundays but if I'm away, I post them later. The project 365 is my hard goal, the weekly posting is the soft one (I like the titles Brian uses and will use them myself).

http://simonssista.blogspot.com/search/label/Pr...

Hi! Sorry I'm a bit late coming back, heavy weekend and all that! I do indeed have my camera insured and took the insurance out before my Lanzarote trip in January. I have cover on the house insurance too, but it wouldn't have been covered out of the country I don't think, and more importantly the amount of cover for individual items on the policy just wasn't enough to even replace my 40d body.

Cost me about £80 (what's that about $120 at the moment?) for the year, but when I sat down and calculated the replacement cost for my kit (about £2,000) I figured it was well worth it. I am also very very precious about my camera, I just don't have the spare 2k I would need to go out and replace all my kit, so I reckoned that it was an investment worth making, not least because it gives me a bit more confidence to use my camera more.

Interestingly, I know my 40 has similar weather sealing (i.e. pretty much none) to the rebel series cameras, and a friend of mine shoots racing cars in the rain with his pretty regularly, with a clear plastic bag over the camera and lens and the front of the bag cut out for the very end of the lens. It's not died yet, not that I'm advocating trying it yourself!

thanks for taking the stress out of it all! i have yet to do a project like that bc of the whole stress factor. do i really want to be miserable about not taking a picture one day? great advice and it's not cheating at all. it's called improvising. :)

I've gone out in light snow a few times - I either have hoods or filters on my lenses to protect them from most of the snow, and I wipe the camera off now and then. But goodness, it seems every time I'm free to actually go out and walk it's been snowing heavily. Grrr.

No. And, well, yes. I have homeowner's insurance that my camera is covered under - so if someone stole my camera and equipment, I would be covered (but would have to pay a deductible - but the deductible is less than what what my most often-used lens alone is, so assuming someone stole my whole bag with my body, and the three lenses that are usually in there, it would cover a lot). However, I don't have the floater policies that some people talk about that would cover it should the camera break.

What about you? Do you have advice? I'm open to hear it, it's something I've thought about a lot but haven't even done much research on it.
