[...] As a final thought, I did want to mention that, if you’re shooting in RAW, you also have the option of changing the white balance of your photo in order to warm or cool the image. I talk about using the Temperature slider – among other things – in UFRaw in this post. [...]

I just use Digital Photo Professional that comes with canon dSLRs. What's really nice is the latest version supports rotating the image in any amount. So if a picture is slightly off I can fix it and not have to export a tif file to edit. I also am addicted to the barrel distortion correction feature. Being a canon program is has a database of all canon's lenses. To correct barrel distortion you just hit a button and it knows what lens you used and what focal length it was and adjusts things accordingly. Granted if I didn't have a lens that distorted so much it wouldn't be an issue, but it's something that's kept me from trying other apps. Another annoyance with DPP is it's settings don't seem to copy over to other programs, like UFRaw. Even when I was trying professional apps like lightroom it didn't see the changes. It would be nice if DPP or even ufraw created .xmp files that other programs (mainly adobe products) see. May make the changes more universal.

Don't you just wish there was a global reset button somewhere when UFRaw remembers all your settings from last time and they're completely horrible for the next photo you open? I certainly do! (all URFaw guys out there, please put a global reset button in!!)

Great article - it's nice to find people using the same software as myself.

awesome! i might have to try this out. i'm using Canon's bundled software which is actually quite good, but I think might be a bit limited. thanks for great article!

btw, one of the options in Canon's Digital Photo Pro is the ability to "Revert to Shot Settings" do you know if it's possible to do this in UFRaw?
